The Fijian Drua says a final settlement amount with an accommodation facility in Australia to settle its bill has been agreed to by both parties and “a payment plan is in place”.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Monday that the Drua had not paid off a six-figure accommodation bill to the New South Wales Government-owned Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre at Lennox Head.

In a statement, the franchise said it had an extended deal on payment with the centre’s owners for the final determination of the charges.

“The Drua had a protracted negotiation with the facility for the final determination of the charges.

“This is due to an insurance claim involved as we had to evacuate the facility because of the flooding in northern NSW and having to use alternative accommodation,” the statement from the Drua read.

“These negotiations have now concluded; a final settlement amount has been determined and a payment plan is in place with the facility.”

The flooding in March last year forced the Drua to evacuate their Australian training base at Lennox Head in northern New South Wales state to the Gold Coast for the seventh and eighth rounds of the tournament.
