Fijiana Drua head coach Senirusi Seruvakula could possibly be part of the men’s set-up next season, says Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) chief executive officer John O’Connor.
Last Saturday, Seruvakula led the Fijiana Drua to a historical Super W win in Australia in only their first year in the competition.
He was also the coach of the men’s team which won Australia’s National Rugby Competition in 2018.
Seruvakula is now preparing the Fijiana XVs side for two Test matches against Australian Wallaroos and Japan next month and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in October.
While speaking at the Fiji National Sports Commission annual conference in Suva last week, O’Connor revealed there were a lot of opportunities coming through within the Fiji rugby coaching structure for the former national player.
He said after the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Seruvakula will join the Flying Fijians coaching panel and possibly join the Fijian Drua setup.
Meanwhile, FRU development manager Sale Sorovaki said yesterday the Fijiana team would remain in Australia until after their Test matches.
“At the moment the team is preparing for two Test matches against Japan and the Wallaroos in Sydney,” Sorovaki said.
“When they get to return home, I think the whole of Fiji will be out in numbers to celebrate.
“Winning the title in their first year of competition, I believe they will be coming to an exciting Fijian reception.”
Sorovaki also spoke on how the Fijiana’s feat had not gone unrecognised.
“It’s good that the players are getting what they rightfully deserve in terms of their commitment to the sport. We are happy that they are doing well at this level of competition.”
