Fijian delegation at the 26th session of the International Seabed Authority

A GOVERNMENT delegation met with Secretary General of the International Seabed Authority Michael Lodge in Kingston, Jamaica, last week.

The delegation was led by the Acting permanent secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources Craig Strong who was supported by deputy secretary Dr Raijeli Taga and Gene Bai, First Secretary for the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations.

The Fijian trio was in Jamaica for the International Seabed Authority’s 26th Session and took the opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Lodge.

According to a press statement issued by the Department of Information, discussions centred on Fiji’s desire to continue to actively contribute to the work of the Authority.

Fijian diplomat Satya Nadan having served as the first Secretary General of the Authority and further through Dr Russel Howarth, Fiji has held the Chair of the Legal and Technical Committee.

Fiji has been a member since the inception of the Authority in 1994.
