Fijian British Army soldier dies in car crash

A FIJIAN British Army soldier died last month after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a van along the Salisbury Plain in the south-western part of central southern England.

Overseas media reports revealed that the collision happened on the 23rd of last month claiming the life of Corporal Ifereimi Vasu.

Cpl Vasu, who is in his 40s, was serving with the Yorkshire Regiment which is based in Warminster, western Wiltshire, England.

In a statement, the British Army confirmed that Cpl Vasu died in the accident which took place near Shrewton, Wiltshire and that his next of kin have been informed of the tragic incident.

The statement also revealed that the army would not comment further as Wiltshire police were investigating the matter.

In a Facebook posting, the Yorkshire Regiment expressed its deepest sadness in the passing of Cpl Vasu.

Cpl Vasu was described as a professional, straight-talking and hardworking soldier who was the very epitome of a Yorkshire Regiment officer.

The regiment stated that the late soldier would be remembered for his generosity and fearless loyalty to his family and friends.

He was further described as kind, caring and compassionate.

Cpl Vasu is survived by his wife and two children.
