Fiji will not be part of The Rugby Championship

Fiji will not be part of The Rugby Championship which is operated by SANZAAR just as yet.

New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Argentina compete in the current format of The Rugby Championship however there is speculation of an expansion in 2024 making it a more of a Southern Six Nations type competition.

Clearing the air on the issue Fijian Drua interim chief executive officer Brian Thorburn said The Rugby Championship currently comprised of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina with the format to remain until 2023.

“There has been some speculation about changes in 2024 but that is a matter for SANZAAR and not for us to comment on,” Thorburn said.

“From our perspective we are very focused on Super Rugby Pacific competition and that’s where we will be heading into June next year.

“The Fiji Rugby Union has test matches in July, so there is no Rugby Championship that features Fiji.”
