The Fijian Government will continue to address the root cause of climate change crisis by advocating that all countries curb the harmful pollution that is warming the planet and causing our climate to change.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama highlighted this while officiating at the Nabukadra village seawall project in Ra today.

Mr Bainimarama said this year, next year and for the foreseeable future, our progress as a country would be defined by how we adapted to the climate challenge.

He said the new seawall harnessed the great power of nature to build a buffer between Nabukadra homes and the encroaching tides.

“This seawall is stronger than the old structure you had in place, which sadly was ill-suited to keeping this community’s 33 families out of harm’s way,” Mr Bainimarama said.

He said the need for those new seawalls across the country was evident of how vulnerable our coastal communities could be to the impacts of changing climate.

“But, just as Nabukadra Village is not alone in dealing with climate impacts among Fijian communities, Fiji is not alone among the nations of the world in dealing with climate change.”
