THE Fiji Baseball under 12 side has missed out on going to the U12 Oceania World Cup Qualifier that was to happen in Sydney, Australia, in January next year.

The qualifier is contended by Fiji, Australia and New Zealand, where the winner qualifies for the World Baseball Softball Confederation U12 Baseball World Cup that will happen next year in Tainan, Taiwan.

“New Zealand has pulled out of the qualifier,” said Fiji Baseball and Softball development officer Inoke Niubalavu who is also with the team.

“And the qualifier is not going to happen,” he said.

With New Zealand’s exit from the qualifying competition and the qualifier scrapped, Australia will most likely advance to the world cup as the Oceania qualifier.

“Oceania has only one qualifying spot but with Australia’s ranking higher than Fiji’s, they will advance,” Niubalavu said.
