SAILOR Andrew Redfern is all set for the Luderitz Speed Challenge which will be held from October 6 to 12 in the dessert of Namibia.
This will be the first time Fiji will be represented in the sailing speed competition and Redfern is looking forward to this historical debut.
He is pleased with the support from the business community and hopes to be a good ambassador of the country in the event.
“Besides setting a record, this is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Fiji and Fiji businesses to a worldwide audience of millions,” Redfern said.
“I really take my hat off to those who have stood up and made this attempt possible.
“I have also received offers of help from individuals seeking no publicity for themselves or their companies, simply because they have pride in their country and want to see Fiji do well in this event.”
Redfern has also received support from two of the world’s top sailors, Anders Bringdal from Mistral Boards and Kevin Pritchard of Ezzy Sails, who have provided equipment required for this record attempt.
“We live in a sailing and water sports paradise. The Fiji Yachting Association conducts lessons for those interested and I really hope in a year or two, we have some new Fijian young guns vying to break this record,” Redfern said.
Redfern is sponsored by Port Denarau Marina, Swindale Associates Ltd, Williams & Gosling, Jack’s of Fiji, Viti Water Sports, Beqa Adventure Divers, Pacific Tourist Store and Yacht Help Fiji.
