SIKH followers residing between the Suva to Nausori corridor today held their prayer ceremony forthe first time at the Nasinu Gurdwara Sahib.

Gurdwara spokesman Hardip Singh said more than 50 followers were part of the two-day Sat Shri Akaal Akand Path ceremony that began last Friday.

The Akand Path ritual is considered very holy and is said to bring peace and solace to the participants and the passive listeners of the recital.

It is the continuous non-stop recitation of all the verses in the Guru Granth Sahib from the beginning to the end lasting more than 48 hours by a team of readers.

“After 80 years, this ceremony has been held at the venue. This Gurdwara was established on August 11, 1939. This is the first time we are doing this for the followers here,” Mr Singh said.

He said the Akand Path started from 10am  on Friday and had been continuing non-stop for 40 hours.

To conclude this ceremony, a prayer was held followed by lunch for the followers.
