Fiji records two seismic activities

Update: 11:05AM TWO earthquakes were recorded in the Fiji region this morning, occurring slightly over an hour apart from each other.

At about 7.08am, the first earthquake was recorded measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale.

The seismic activity occurred at a depth of 551km, and was located 94km North-northeast from Tubou, Lakeba in Lau; 171km Southeast from Somosomo, Taveuni; and 331km East-northeast from Suva, Fiji.

At 8.19am, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake occurred south of Fiji.

The department said this seismic event occurred at a depth of 72km.

It was located 658km Southwest from Vunisea, Kadavu; 692km Southwest from Matokana in Ono-i-Lau; and 764km South-southwest from Suva.

The department said both seismic activities did not pose any immediate threats to the region.
