TO commemorate World Oceans Day, Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd organised a clean-up campaign at the Suva Harbour and the surrounding areas today.

FPCL public relations officer Losalini Bolatagici said the conservation focus of the day was to inspire a worldwide fight against plastic pollution.

She said World Oceans Day was an opportunity to raise global awareness of the challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.

“The clean-up today was divided into three groups. The first group started from the Kings Wharf, Princess Wharf and along the foreshore. The second cleaned up Port Muaiwalu 1 (for our locally-registered fishing vessel) towards Port Muaiwalu 2 (for our inter-island vessels) where the final group took care of,” Mrs Bolatagici said.

She said the clean-up was not only restricted at sea but also along the shoreline, the Waiting Shed at Port Muaiwalu 2 as well as outlets for serving our customers and members of the public.
