THE Fiji Police Force and the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces will promote the sport of rugby among its officers as a form of exercise.
This is an initiative from the Government and facilitated by the Fiji Rugby Union and New Zealand Rugby Union where the two disciplined forces received training from former Flying Fijians Koli Sewabu and Inoke Male on quick rip rugby.
On Friday, 28 police officers and one officer from the RFMF completed the three-day training on rugby coaching techniques.
Chief Administration Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Itendra Nair said the sport of rugby had a unique way of uniting people for a common cause.
He said through the sport, they would introduce a new mode of physical exercise to be incorporated with sports day to benefit police officers.
ACP Nair said the health condition of some officers was a major concern for the Force.
“Improving the organisation’s physical and health status is one of the Commissioner’s priorities this year, and if you are able to use Quick RIP rugby as a regular sporting event for our officers, it is sure to get officers excited about physical training.
“I always say that all training will only be successful if you talk about it and most importantly, practice what you have been taught,” ACP Nair said.
