Fijian Police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old boy on board an interisland vessel on Wednesday.

They are also investigating how a guardian conveyed the deceased from Rakiraki to Ba despite finding him motionless on the ferry.

It is alleged the deceased left Nabouwalu with the guardian in the early hours of Wednesday and arrived at Ellington wharf in Rakiraki three hours later.

The boy was found motionless on board the vessel, however, the guardian didn’t report the matter to anyone and took him to Ba.

“There is a report lodged whereby an 11-year old student was found motionless on board and conveyed to the Ba Aspen Hospital,” said Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

“He was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.”

She said the boy was believed to have been sick for three weeks.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain cause of death.
