FIJI Police Force Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has commended the New Zealand Police Force in their handling of the Christchurch terror attack on March 15.

While speaking at the Pacific Detector Dog Programme Annual Workshop in Nadi yesterday, he said their Kiwi counterparts had the world watching them as they carried out their work to answer questions of families and the world.

“I wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the New Zealand government, through the New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs for convening this workshop, considering what would be an extremely demanding time for their services during this tough period for their nation,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

“May I also commend the professional manner in how the New Zealand Police handled the tragic situation – with the eyes of the world watching closely – waiting with abated breath, to find answers to the who, what, when, where, and most importantly – the why and how’s that followed soon after.

“And many questions will linger following the tragic shootings, and undoubtedly, one will be, on whether law enforcement not only in New Zealand but across the globe, have the ability to prevent similar attacks from happening.

“This is a responsibility that we shoulder on a daily basis – and most people would require law enforcement agencies to give a definitive answer on whether we do have the proficiency to keep the people we serve safe at all times.”
