Fiji PM tells UNGA about upcoming national elections

FIJI will soon celebrate national elections for the second time since its return to democracy, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told the UN General Assembly in his national address yesterday.

“I say celebrate with a purpose, because truly free elections are the very starting point for democracy and freedom,” Mr Bainimarama said.

He said if the people could not choose their government freely, then their other freedoms were always in jeopardy.
