CLIMATE change is the single greatest threat to the livelihoods, security and well-being of our people, says Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

He made this comment while officiating at the opening of the Asia Pacific Urban Forum 7 in Malaysia.

Mr Bainimarama said since its inception, the forum had been able to recognise the reality of climate change.

He said as countries themselves were proving slow to change, and international consensus seems increasingly elusive, the mobilisation of urban centres was filling the void of nation-based leadership.

“While countries stick to the status quo, cities are finding new ways to collectivise and innovate,” he said.

“And that, my friends, gives countries like Fiji who are on the front lines of climate change a ray of hope.”
