The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has today confirmed that the Fiji Airways Men’s and Women’s teams will not be traveling to Spain for the Malaga 7s tonight as planned after a few players and management staff returned positive results as part of their 72 hours pre-departure compliance requirements tests.

FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said as per traveling protocols, both teams went through the COVID-19 PCR test and a few results turned out positive.

He said those team members were all well and also asymptomatic.

“… But taking into consideration that the entire team (members) are primary contacts, and after discussions with the Ministry of Health and considering the safety and welfare of everyone, the entire teams have moved into the mandatory seven-day isolation in their respective camps last night after results were received,” O’Connor said.

More details in tomorrow’s edition of The Sunday Times.
