THE reality of the matter is that we are living on borrowed money, says Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry.

He made this comment during the party’s annual general meeting for the Nadi branch held in Votualevu recently.

“The situation today is that if we don’t get loans, we won’t survive. The current administration is ridden in debt,” he claimed.

Mr Chaudhry said the loans taken by the current government was now not in millions but in billions.

“The FijiFirst government is taking a new $1.4 billion loan and last year they took a loan of $2.8 billion.”

Mr Chaudhry said the FijiFirst government was in huge debt and that this debt-ridden government could not help anyone.

“They are looting away the nation and that is the reason why the country is poor,” he claimed.

“The biggest disease in the country is corruption and we are losing tens of millions of dollars in corrupt practices in this country,” said Mr Chaudhry.

Questions have been sent to the Minister for Economy and FijiFirst general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
