THE Fiji lawn bowling team had their second trials on Friday and yesterday in preparation for the regional competition in the next three months.

The first trial was held last month in Nadi with the second one at the Suva Bowling club.

A total of 13 players will battle for the top 10 spots in the team with five men and five women’s team to compete in the Asia Pacific Championship and the Pacific Games.

Fiji women’s bowling team manager Usa Khalim said they had one more trial in March before they selected the final team.

“There are no new faces in the team. These are all experienced players and they have to meet the criteria needed from them to make the final team,” said Khalim.

“If these players want to be selected to the final team, the selectors will see how good their skills are and how they blend in as a team player because this sport involves team work.”

The national bowling team will participate in the Asia Pacific Championship from June 14-28 and they will focus on the Pacific Games in July.

“We need to be in the top 12 in the Asia Pacific Championship if we want to participate in the World Bowls next year so this team will play in two tournaments back-to-back,” said Khalim.
