THE Fijian Junior Surfing team will represent Fiji to the World Junior Surfing titles to be held at Huntington Beach, California, USA this year.

In a statement issued today Fiji Surfing Association national head coach, Ian Portingale said the opening ceremony displaying all their national flags and uniforms will be on Saturday October 27 and competition starts on October 28 running through to November 3.

“With 44 countries from all over the world our team of five will need to be at their best in this strong international field of 354 surfers and they need you to get behind them,” Portingale said.

“In the under 18 boys is Korotogo Kalani Wakeham, under 16 boys are Api Tibinaliva and Maui Bay John Vasea.

Portingale said the girls will be well represented as well in the under 16 girls with the likes of Korotogo sisters Kayla and Kiesha Wakeham.

“Vunanui’s Lesi Navuwai and Suva’s Hannah Bennett will lead the team.

“Both have plenty of international experience and know what the team needs to bring to this strong international field.

“The team departs Nadi International at 7pm tonight so it will be your last opportunity to grab photo or a quick interview at the airport.”

“Special thanks to the Fiji National Sports Commission, Fiji Airways and Cloudbreak for their incredible support.”

The International Surfing Association (ISA) website will have live coverage of the opening ceremony and live heats.
