AUSTRALIAN Foreign Affairs minister Julie Bishop was yesterday ecstatic to see Fiji being the 10th country to sign up to the Australia’s Seasonal Worker Program.
She made the statement after her Parliamentary secretary Steve Ciobo signed a memorandum of understanding with Labour Minister Jioje Konrote.
“The Seasonal Worker Program is a mutually beneficial initiative, providing valuable opportunities for Fijian workers to secure short-term employment in Australia, and helping Australian employers to fill gaps in the available labour force.
The program is consistent with our focus on creating jobs, boosting incomes and contributing to economic development in our region,” Ms Bishop said.
She said the program was also being trialled in accommodation, aquaculture, cotton and cane sectors.
