A TALANOA session to discuss economic collaboration between Indonesia and Fiji was held in Pacific Harbour today.

Organised by the Indonesian Embassy, the session was part of the build-up to the international business-to-business tradeshow Trade Expo Indonesia, which will held from October 16-20 in BSD City Banten, Indonesia.

According to the Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, Benyamin Scott Carnadi, the purpose of the talanoa session was to strengthen bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.

Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to the Pacific, Esala Teleni, said the two countries already had a lengthy history of co-operation which covered a broad range of development areas such as fisheries, small and medium enterprises, public works and infrastructure.

Mr Teleni said fisheries – especially aquaculture and mariculture – was one of the areas in which Fiji could learn a lot from Indonesia.

More than 20 participants from the private and public sphere attended the event, which included presentations by Investment Fiji, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
