The Fiji Football Association is looking forward to a big 2023 season with the national under-17 team participating in the regional playoffs and the national U19 side playing in the FIFA U19 World Cup in Indonesia.
The Fiji FA has also set out its calendar with the major tournaments accordingly.
The deferred 2022 Digicel National Regional Club Championship (NRCC) will be played from January 19-22.
Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal said six teams will participate in the event.
He said the original venue to host the championship was Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. Pal said they would review this since the McDonalds Coral Coast 7s would be played at the same venue a week earlier.
“With the rainy weather right now, we are not sure if the ground will be suitable for football since rugby 7s will be played a week before,” he said.
“The six teams for the NRCC will be divided into two groups of three.
The two top teams from each group will go straight through to the final.”
Police FC (Ba), United Sangam (Lautoka), Greenstar (Nadroga), Kasavu (Rewa), Mega FC (Naitasiri) and Central Meads (Suva) have qualified for the NRCC.
Pal said the Digicel Fiji FACT would be played in June according to the new public holiday calendar. He said they had shifted the Fiji FACT date since the Oceania Football Championship (OFC) Champions League was scheduled for May.
“The Battle of the Giants tournament will be played in August,” he said. “The Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) is set for the original Fiji Day public holiday in October.”
The Champion versus Champion series between Suva and Rewa will be played on the first two weekends of February.
Suva won the IDC title after thrashing Navua 4-0 in the final while Rewa took out the Digicel Premier League (DPL) edging Suva on goal differential. The DPL will kick off on February 18.
