THE Fiji cricket team has missed out from the ICC World T20 Qualifier after they lost their last game against Samoa at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

The Fijians were not able to recover form their two loses on Tuesday as they scored 163 runs for six wickets before Samoa replied with 165 runs for three wickets in their 16.4 overs.

The Fiji team lost four from six of their matches during this competition.

Fiji cricket head coach, Iniasi Cakacaka said their performance yesterday had hindered the team’s chances of qualifying to the ICC T20 Championship next year.

“Our game today against Samoa was not really up to the standard we expected but it is how the game goes, as one will win and the other team will lose,” said Cakacaka.

“Our attack on bowling was the area we were lacking before the spinners came in, but this did not change the situation of the game.”

The Fiji team were hoping to win yesterday’s game against Samoa after losing to Vanuatu and PNG in the fourth and fifth rounds of the competition.

“We were hoping to win this game so we can come in second and qualify for the T20 Championship but Samoa came out strongly in the end,” said Cakacaka.

“We beat Samoa in our first game since we sent their good batsmen out early but then he proved himself in our second match and scored big numbers,” he added.
