THERE have been challenges but with every setback we have encountered, together Team Fiji has overcome.

These were the words of encouragement by Fijian President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote during the national Fiji Day celebration at Subrail Park in Labasa today.

Mr Konrote said this year was the ninth consecutive year of economic growth, bringing new jobs that had brought unemployment to its lowest point in decades.

“We have achieved universal access to primary and secondary school education now that education is finally free for all students in Fiji,” he said.

He said Fiji was the hub of trade, finance, communications and innovation, and that in urban centres and the most rural pockets of the country, they were seeing new and upgraded roads, new schools built to higher standards, new and better government services, greater flows of trade and investment and higher pay jobs coming to the country.

This is the first time in Fijian history that the national Fiji Day celebration had been taken to the Northern Division.
