THE official celebration for Fiji Day will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa on October 10.

Ministry of Defence and National Security permanent secretary Osea Cawaru announced this during a press conference in Suva last week.

He said the theme for this year’s celebration was “Progressing together leaving no Fijian behind”.

Mr Cawaru said this year marked the 48th anniversary of Fiji’s independence and celebrations would be held throughout the four divisions — Navua in the Central Division, Lautoka in the Western Division, Levuka in the Eastern Division and Labasa in the Northern Division.

“Central to this theme is the enduring and resounding aspect of our collective aspirations as Fijians, clearly outlined in the National Development Plan that is: transforming Fiji towards a more progressive, vibrant and exclusive society,” Mr Cawaru said.

“At the main celebration in Labasa, the day program begins with a march through town to Subrail Park by schoolchildren, members of the private and public sectors and members of the community.

“This will be followed with a stunning spectacle of military parade and culminating with a Military Tattoo in the evening where Subrail Park will erupt in flashing lights, harmonious co-ordination and display of the military and police marching bands together with schoolchildren from selected schools and the twanging electric guitars of the one-time favourites QEB Serenaders.

“We encourage all Fijians wherever you are in the country and around the globe to be part of this year’s event and we also invite friends who have called Fiji home and visitors to our shores to make this Fiji Day special by celebrating with us in the different divisions,” he added.
