THE BLK Police Blue rugby 7s team ended its 34-year drought this evening to be the new champ of the 43rd Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament.

The law enforcers narrowly defeated Wardens Gold 17-12 to claim the title after two brutal days of eight matches against 63 teams in the men’s division.

Police Blue captain Livai Ikanikoda said the victory belonged to God and all the credits go back to him.

“First of all, I would thank the Lord Almighty for His blessings and giving us the strength to win this tournament,” said Ikanikoda.

“Hats off to the boys for their effort and sticking to the game plan, controlling possession and for not giving up.”

A brief look at the results:

– the Ravuka Sharks scooped the Shield trophy beating Army Green 15-7,

– former champs Tabadamu Blue thumped Wadigi 33-0 to claim the Bowl title, and

– Police White escaped a tough Russian Red team 12-7 to win the Plate final.

In the oldies exhibition match, Suva Oldies edged Waimanu 12-10.

The women’s defending champions retained the title beating Striders 17-7, and Police Blue defeated Wardens Gold in the cup final 17-12.
