RATU Meli Kurisaru of the Police Blue rugby sevens team can be dubbed as the heartbreak kid in rugby 7s and as well as in 15s.

Kurisaru scored two tries to help his Police side beat Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens defending champion Tabadamu Blue in the cup quarter-final t 15-0.

The Nasama lad from Nadroga had also played a similar role for the Suva rugby team last year as he kicked some last-minute conversions and penalties against Nadroga, Namosi and Naitasiri teams in the Skipper Cup and HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge competitions to win the matches for them.

Kurisaru said it’s all about teamwork and he saluted his teammates for doing their part in the quarter-final especially against the defending champion.

“A win in rugby is a win for the team and my two tries were only possible because of the teamwork and consistency of the players throughout the 14 minutes of play and I thank the boys for that,” said Kurisaru.

“From the pool games to our last game, it has always been a final for us and we respected all our opponents but whatever happened in the field that led to our victory is because of the teamwork and I thank the Almighty for His blessings.”

Kurisaru scored the first try of the quarter-final in the last minute of the first half and did his magic again with a dummy pass to score their second try before their last try was scored in the final minute of the game.
