THE Vodafone Fiji Bati team has added salt to the wounds of its country’s rugby fans with its winless outing at the Rugby League World 9s tournament in Australia this weekend.

The lackluster star-studded side which was filled with some of the best in the code, failed to spark in the abbreviated code of the 13-man game.

So, the Fiji Bati were bundled out of the Downer -sponsored Rugby League World Cup 9s after losing its three pool matches at the Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, Australia on Friday and yesterday.

The team lost its opening match to Samoa on Friday night by 32-17 followed by narrow losses to Tonga Invitational 21-17 and their last pool game to Cook Islands by 12-10 yesterday.

Cook Islands pulled off the upset of the tournament on day one beating Tonga Invitational by 30-7.

Samoa progressed to the next stage after beating Tonga 24-20 in the last match of pool play.

The Bati will return and prepare for the coming Oceania Cup Test match against Samoa next month at Eden Park in New Zealand.

Pool results: Tonga Invitational 7-30 Cook Islands, Samoa 32-17 Fiji, Samoa 17-4 Cook Islands, Fiji 17-21 Tonga, Cook Islands 12-10 Fiji, Samoa 24-20 Tonga.
