Fiji bans import and export of shark fins

FIJI has banned the import and export of shark fins and live corals under the Customs (Prohibited Imports and Exports) (Amendment) Regulations 2019.

Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau confirmed that finning of Hammerhead, Ocean White Tip, Silky Shark and Whale Shark for any purpose was illegal.

Mr Koroilavesau said landing of those species of sharks were banned, meaning that if they were fished they had to be released back into the sea.
