A GRANT agreement on the hand tractors has been signed by Fiji and the Republic of Indonesia in Suva.
During the signing of $773,000 grant agreement, Ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary David Kolitagane reassured that this collaboration would further strengthen Fiji’s agricultural cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia.
“I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the government of Indonesia for the kind support in the development of the agriculture sector in Fiji,” Mr Kolitagane said.
“The signing of the grant agreement today is a very significant event for both Fiji and Indonesia as its intention are to further strengthen this cooperation between the two countries and to implement some key areas of agricultural cooperation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Agriculture secretary general Indonesia Syukur Iwantoro said grant assistance would help strengthen the link between Indonesia and Fiji in terms of agriculture.
“Indonesia fully supports the initiative to develop Fiji’s mechanisation and modernisation strategy and we will continue to show our support towards Fiji’s agriculture sector and sustain the relationship between the two countries,” Mr Iwantoro said.
The grant agreement is a follow up on the implementation of some areas of agricultural cooperation in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Jakarta last year.
