The Fiji Airways Aviation Academy in Nadi hosted President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere this afternoon marking his first visit to the academic in his capacity as Head of State since the facility opened in October last year.

Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Andre Viljoen briefed Ratu Wiliame on the features of the academy and the benefits to the national airline.

“It was an honour for the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy to receive His Excellency and to demonstrate to him the advantages of having this multi-million facility at our disposal,” Mr Viljoen said in a statement this evening.

“I am pleased more-so for the support that the President has shown to the national carrier for our years of service to the Fijian people.”

Executive manager Operations Captain Aaron Dean provided the President a guided tour of the academy to see the range of facilities available.

The highlight was a session in the A330 simulator where Ratu Wiliame experienced what it was like to be at the helm of a Fiji Airways A330-300 aircraft.

“To date, 24 local pilots have undergone promotional training moving from Second Officer to First Officer, or First Officer to Captain using the Academy. This has increased our cadre of highly skilled pilots while at the same time reducing the cost of sending them overseas for training,” Mr Viljoen said.
