Fiji Airports has restricted the landing of ATR 42 and ATR 72 planes at Labasa Airport until August 11, 2020.

This is due to “weather challenges posed during these necessary and vital construction upgrades of the runway”.

“Fiji Airports has advised our stakeholders that medium category aircraft (ATR 42 and ATR 72) have been restricted over this period,” FAL said in a statement.

Fiji Link has been flying its Twin Otter and Northern Air its Bandeirante aircraft since Labasa Airport re-opened on Thursday to serve members of the travelling public.

“This restriction as to aircraft type is a safety precaution that we have elected to undertake.

“Safety for the travelling public is of paramount importance to both the airport and airline operators.”

Fiji Airports will continue to monitor the runway status over the weekend and look forward to resumption of normal operations shortly, the statement read.
