Fiji Airports has paid $10million in interim dividend to the Government for the 2022 financial year.

Fiji Airports Board chairperson Hasmukh Patel handed over the cheque to Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday.

Mr Rabuka acknowledged the compaby’s management and staff or their hard work and dedication.

He said it was encouraging to note that despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, FA had reviewed and prioritised capital projects such as the infrastructure plans for Nadi Airport and the outer islands, which was more important and critical given the visitor arrivals for the last few months already surpassing pre-COVID levels.

He also commended the Board management for “consistently reviewing and implementing cost-cutting measures”, and progressively planning Fiji Airport’s recovery without dismissing any staff.

Mr Patel said Fiji Airports had paid $175million in dividends to the government in the past six years prior to COVID.

He said the interim dividend of $10million could be beneficial for the Government because it provided an additional source of revenue that could be used to fund various projects and initiatives, or support the country’s economic development.

He added the Board remained committed and would ensure higher returns were paid to the Government in future.
