FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber has admitted the team had a disappointing start last weekend at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series opener in Dubai and were ready to show some improvements this weekend.

“We know as a team that we let ourselves down in the first tournament and the challenge is to obviously win this one,” Baber said.

“A pretty similar situation to last season, we didn’t react well in the first tournament we were disappointing in a couple of key aspects namely our defence and our retention of restart where we can create pressure.”

Although last week’s performance still stung, Baber is adamant his warriors will put on a different show in Cape Town.

“We have been in these situations before, and we were hurting Sunday and Monday of this week.

“We have reviewed exactly where we feel we were not at the level we needed to be and we got to make sure we go through this and do everything we can to put that right and moving in the direction of winning again.”

Meanwhile, Baber said the squad was at its maximum strength with skipper Paula Dranisinukula back after recovering from a slight injury received in their ninth place playoff game against Canada last weekend.
