Stop the misuse and promote the proper use of antimicrobials.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong made this plea while addressing the ministry’s video and poster competition awards ceremony on Wednesday.

The competition was organised by the ministry in November last year during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week.

Dr Fong said we had to make sure we were using antimicrobials wisely and correctly.

“It is the responsibility as individuals in our homes, villages, towns and nations to come together and unite in fighting against the microscopic organisms that are shaping the way we interact with each other, the way we move across the globe and the way we plan for the future,” Dr Fong said.

“Otherwise our children and their children will enter into a world where antimicrobials are of no use anymore, as deadly highly resistant microorganisms thrive in our communities, causing untreatable diseases and deaths.”

Winners from video and poster competitions were awarded certificates and gift packs.
