The Fiji Football Association has called on football fans to get behind the Digicel Junior Bula Boys as they take on New Caledonia in the semi-finals of the 2022 OFC Under-19 Championship in Tahiti today.
A win for the Digicel ‘Junior Bula Boys’ will not only secure them a spot in the final but also a place in next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said today was a big day for the association and all football fans in the country.
“It’s going to be big. We have a chance to make it to the world cup after so long and this chance may not come anytime soon again. I urge the fans to get behind the team, pray for them, watch them on TV and support them,” Yusuf said.
He added that with social media now easily accessible, fans can make videos and post it up for the team to see.
“We have seen a few videos lately. We know we cannot be there to support the boys but fans can cheer them on and let the boys know that they are behind them,” Yusuf said.
“It will be a big day for the boys and let’s all get behind them to try and secure a spot at the world cup.”
Fiji has only once made it to a FIFA World Cup.
That was in 2015 when we competed at the 2015 Under-20 World Cup.
The Fiji U19 side plays New Caledonia at 2.30pm today.
