THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s players have been given the remainder of the week off to recover following a hectic schedule which included the Hong Kong 7s, Commonwealth Games and Singapore 7s which were all played within a month. Fiji coach Gareth Baber said they were sitting at a good position at the top of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series points table following the Singapore 7s win but the task was not complete.

“We have done a lot of good work in the past three to four months and obviously before that in the off-season to get us to where we are at the moment,” Baber said.

We know that we have only achieved a position at this stage and the final position at the end of the series is what we are after.

“The boys are focused on delivering that. To be back with a win in Singapore puts us in a good position going into London and Paris. Sevuloni Mocenacagi is the lone injury concern with a pop cartilage and is out for the next two weeks.

“There will be recovery this week,” Baber said.

“The boys are tired as they have had one of the busiest months that they will ever have with Hong Kong, the Commonwealth Games and Singapore 7s.

“This was always going to be a challenge and we knew that pretty well. Three finals, narrowly missing out on the Commonwealth Games gold which hurt us.

“Two other wins around that has been good for us. We will be back in camp next week. That’s when we will assess everybody.

“We have two to three weeks before we fly off to London. The focus is getting wins in London and Paris.”
