THE 2018 Vodafone Sugar Festival has been hailed a success by members of the organising committee after another six days of entertainment and fun activities for the people of Lautoka.

Sugar Festival Committee president Pusp Raj said this year’s festival had gone by smoothly without any incidences.

“I can say it was excellent compared to the past few years,” he said.

“We had a lot more entertainment rides for younger children especially and there was a lot more stalls with people coming as far as Suva and Nausori to take advantage of the crowd that would come in.

“As far as incidences, we didn’t get any reports of injuries nor did we have any major accidents and that is always something that we don’t want happening.

“The Sugar Festival is our premier carnival and we were very happy with this year’s turn out.”

He said the money raised through the festival’s Charity Trust would not be determined until a proper count was made.

“We have to alert our accountants and make sure that whatever we collected is properly documented.

“Once that is done we will be able to determine how much we collected.” He added that every individual involved in the festival had made it a success.

“I want to thank everyone that came and took part on the Sugar Festival stage. Each day we had some kind of entertainment happening and we thank every school or entertainment group that took part.”

The festival was closed last night by former Lautoka City Council special administrator and Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar.
