THE Fiji Disabled People’s Federation is expecting a reshuffle in the 2019-2020 National Budget allocation for people living with disabilities.

Federation president Joshko Wakaniyasi said this change could be done to ensure that money allocated to the sector was well used.

“In some areas, some funds are not utilised completely,” Mr Wakaniyasi said.

“We know there might be cuts in certain areas, but it’s not cut to the sector.

“We’ve had consultations already with them (Ministry of Economy) in-house meaning that at the moment we have multiple packages such as disability allowance, the bus fare assistance, we have got the grants to persons with disabilities and the thing that we are looking forward to on Friday is there might be some reshuffle.

“For some amounts there would be some additions, so the thing is not to cut from the allocation within the sector, but there might be reshuffle in the amount within that sector.”

Mr Wakaniyasi said Government was now investing vastly into the disability sector and it was also imperative for the recipients in the sector to look for ways on how they could contribute to the economy.
