Young people are the most vocal demographic when it comes to protecting the environment. This, according to Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes.

He made the comment while virtually launching the University of Fiji, Science Circus Pacific and Australian National University organised Secondary School Waste Management Campaign 2021.

“This is an opportunity to help us all better understand how to manage our waste such as recycling, reusing as well as developing innovative new waste management techniques,” he said.

He said in the ever-changing world that we lived in, and the rapid technological changes taking place, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills were more crucial than ever before.

“Environment waste management is important for our children as it would allow them to understand the financial and ecological burdens of waste.”

He said he was confident the campaign would generate a lot of interest for students to be part of and students would take part in the competitions that had been organised in the world.

“The Australian government values this initiative as it introduces students to the important function of equality that help improve waste management.”
