The Fijian Government’s vaccination roll-out program has been hailed by Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes.

He said despite the completion of Australia New Zealand Medical Assistance Team’s (ANZMAT) deployment to Fiji, Australia continued to support the Ministry of Health with its COVID-19 response efforts.

“It is heartening to see our Australian and Fijian medical professionals working side by side on the ground to tackle the impact of the virus in Fiji head on,” he said.

Mr Feakes said Fiji’s vaccination roll-out had also been exceptional with more than 50 per cent of the targeted eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“This is a milestone achievement that reflects the tireless work of the Health Ministry’s vaccination teams and determination of Fijians to protect themselves and their loved ones.”

The ANZMAT group that was deployed to Fiji from June 21 to September 3 brought in 30 medical and nursing personnel and six liaison officers.

The three medical teams – Alpha, Bravo and Charlie – supported and assisted the Ministry of Health in their fight against COVID-19.
