In recognition of their years of service for the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS), former assistant commissioner operations Ratu Sakiusa Veiwili and wife Esther Veiwili received medals on Friday.

The duo met during their recruitment on July 23, 1986 and married years later.

Speaking on their behalf, Mr Veiwili thanked God for his guidance and direction in their life.

He said when they looked back at their years of service, it was worth it.

“It was quite demanding and challenging at times but I thank God for the people he put in our lives, especially our four children and friends in the service we now call family,” he said.

The Bau native spent three years in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces before returning to join his wife, Esther.

Esther was all smiles as she reminisced her years of service.

She said having her husband by her side made the journey more meaningful.

The Nasolo, Ba lady said she was happy to have made her mark in the service and retired last year after working in the Operations Command Centre as principal corrections officer.

“Juggling work and home chores as a mother to four children was not easy but passion made me work extra hard and I have never regretted anything,” she said.

“I always stress to my children, who are parents now, to set their homes in order before concentrating on other things because once the home is in order, the other things will fall in place.”

The couple received their medals from President Jioji Konrote during the medal parade in Naboro yesterday.
