FBOA: No funds, no travel

MEMBERS of the Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) earlier today agreed at a special general meeting not to carry any passenger without funds on their eTransport card.

In a statement issued this evening, FBOA President Nisar Ali Shah said that would also include school children who receive assistance from the Ministry of Education.

“Thousands of students still have not received their travel funds from the Ministry of Education and over the previous three days, numerous operators have had to carry these students for free,” Mr Shah said in that statement.

“One operator estimated his buses carried up to 2000 students free on Monday and Tuesday because funds had not yet been credited to students’ cards.

“The delay in crediting students’ cards has further affected struggling bus operators because of the loss of revenue through carrying students for free of charge. This cannot continue to happen.”
