THE Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) is holding its annual convention at the Novotel in Lami today.

The theme for this year’s meet is ‘What the bus industry means to Fiji and how to maintain sustainability’.

FBOA general secretary Rohit Latchan says this theme is aimed at stimulating discussion about the industry’s importance across all economic sectors of Fiji, and the steps stakeholders can take to ensure the industry continues to develop and remain viable.

“In the past, the bus industry has undergone a transformation unlike any since land transportation services began in the country,” Mr Latchan said.

“We hope the discussions today will focus attention on the vital importance of our industry to the economic and social lifeblood of this country, and how to overcome the challenges that could threaten our progress.”

FBOA president Richard Lal said the annual convention was the highlight of the year for bus operators across Fiji because it afforded them a time to gather, listen to industry stakeholders, and raise concerns about matters that affected them.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Parveen Kumar was initially confirmed to be the chief guest at the convention.

It has just been announced that Attorney General and Minister for Justice Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be officiating at the convention.

More than 150 members and stakeholders are attending the meet.
