A Lautoka father says he is uncertain about sending his primary-aged daughter to school because he fears the possibility of her contracting COVID-19.

Inoke Navunilagi of Lovu Seaside settlement said there was no guarantee from the Education Ministry on the safety of children while at school and he called on the ministry to assure parents of the safety of their little ones.

“I believe the distribution of worksheets is the most effective way right now because in this way, we are able to protect our little ones at home and guarantee their safety because they will be with us all the time,” he said.

“We have been hearing so many things and I am urging the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to simplify messages they bring out to the public so that we are also kept updated with this latest surge in cases.

“I am not against my child returning to school, but the main concern is that when my child gets sick, it’s us parents who will be responsible for it and not anyone else.”

Mr Navunilagi said they needed to be reassured their children would be safe when they returned to school on Monday next week.

He said as of now, worksheet distribution remained the safest method of educating little children.
