MOMENTS after Kunal Raj told his father, Shalen Kumar, he was “going to town”, the Lautoka canefarmer received word his only son had died in a horrific accident on the Kings Rd at Drasa, on the outskirts of Lautoka.
Mr Raj had recently turned 21 and Mr Kumar had given him a car.
“My brother was returning from Ba when he came across the accident,” Mr Kumar said. “When he saw the car he knew that it was Kunal.
“He called me and when I arrived, it was too late.
“He was gone.” Mr Kumar said he did not know how to tell the news to his mother because Kunal “did everything for her”.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said he was killed instantly and an investigation was in progress to ascertain the cause of the accident.
