The INKK Fiji Farebrother Challenge Trophy will return to Naluwai Ground in Naitasiri after 24 years when the red and black Highlanders host Namosi this Saturday.
The last time Naitasiri defended the Farebrother Trophy at the ground was in 1998 when they defeated Suva.
Team manager Maciu Koroiqaqa said the match, which also marks the start of the Skipper Cup season, will see some new faces feature for the home side.
“We have had eight players who left us as they either joined the Fijian Drua or have attained overseas contracts.
That is nothing bad for us as we want our players to progress.
“We have a pathway which allows our under-19 players to come up the grades and feature for the senior team,” he said.
Koroiqaqa said nothing had changed in terms of preparation and his team was giving its best shot at training.
“The preparation remains the same. We prepare hard, train hard and expect the same from players on game day. There are a few experienced players who are leading the young ones which is good to see.”
He added Namosi cannot be taken lightly as they have nothing to lose.
“Challenging for the cup is easy, defending it is hard. We know Namosi will come out firing as they’re a good side. But we are preparing for them and we want to win and retain the trophy come Saturday.”
He has called on Naitasiri fans to come out in numbers and support their team.
“From right up the hills to down to the seaside in Suva, all Naitasiri fans are urged to get behind the team as they need as much support as possible.”
Naitasiri hosts Namosi at 3pm on Saturday.
In other Skipper Cup matches starting at the same time, Nadroga hosts Tailevu at Lawaqa Park, Northland battles Rewa at Gatward Park while Suva takes on Nadi at the ANZ Stadium.
