Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor believes the new Inkk Farebrother Sullivan Trophy will add weight to Rewa’s campaign as they look to unseat the current holders in the anticipated double-header today.

“We hope the new trophy will inspire Rewa,” O’Connor said.

“The old Farebrother Trophy worn through the years has been replaced by a wood and aluminium plated cup weighing some 20 kilograms which excited the crowd during the Skipper Provincial Cup launch earlier this week.”

After years of being used, and bearing battle scars, the old trophy is being repaired.

“The unveiling of the new trophy should light a fire for the Rewa team,” O’Connor said.

The new trophy replaces the former, which has been contested for as early as 1950 which will now rest at the Fiji Museum.

Rewa coach Alivereti Doviverata said 80 minutes was all that remained between his team and history and only time would tell where the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy would have its home next.

“It doesn’t get any better, and it definitely wont be easy, but we are up for the challenge and look forward to a great game,” Doviverata said.
