A FAMILY from Matawalu in Lautoka is demanding answers from police on investigations surrounding their daughter’s alleged involvement in a freak accident over the weekend.
Anare Rabonu says he is disappointed Lautoka police officers had not provided an update on the incident.
He claimed the driver of the vehicle that allegedly hit his daughter and a cousin was known to the villagers.
His eldest daughter, Taina Cavuyawa, is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital Intensive Care Unit ever since the accident on Friday night.
“The last statement taken from me was by a police officer at the Lautoka Hospital when I took my injured daughter,” Mr Rabonu said.
“We are looking for answers; we hope we will be kept updated with investigations surrounding my daughter’s accident because it is not a minor one.
“It hurts us to see her in that state and the fact that police have not provided us a feedback of their investigations saddens us more.”
Eye witness Timaima Rasuaki said the incident happened a little after 10pm along the Kings Highway.
She said she had to call out to her brother who was a few metres away to help her cousin who was lying unconscious on the road.
When contacted, police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said investigation were still ongoing and the investigating team had been directed to look into the concerns of the family.
